How do I know whether to repair or replace an existing AC unit?

Blaine Inc. typically recommends that if the cost to repair your AC unit is at the point of, or close to being 50% of what the original price of the unit cost, then a replacement will be a better investment in the long run. It’s also a good idea to take into consideration the year of the model, and how well the air conditioner has been running recently. If it’s older than 15 years or has been causing more and more problems, you’ll be better off with an entirely new unit.

How do I know if I need a duct cleaning?

Air ducts should be cleaned every 3-5 years, so if you’re struggling to remember the last time you got your air ducts checked out, you may want to schedule an appointment. If you have moved into a new residence, live with smokers, or have a pet that sheds frequently, it’s advisable to set up appointments within every other year. Other signs you’ll want to book a cleaning can look like an increase in allergies, stuffy air flow within a house, and increased health problems and headaches.

How often should I schedule a maintenance check?

We experience warm springs and summers here in Merced, which will put your HVAC units into full drive. For air conditioning, heating, and heat pump maintenance, we recommend you schedule a tune-up at least twice a year: one in the fall and one before spring.
